For the last 5 years, we have been working with Kavo UK on large scale public sector jobs.
The Kavo products and brand are globally renowned. Our cabinetry needs to be of the same standard. It means we have to provide a cabinetry product that is complementary to the dental unit and is robust and high quality.
We recently worked with Kavo on a large public sector job at the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Bio-medical Sciences, Queen’s University, Belfast.
The School wanted a large dental simulation with 36 student workstations orientated towards a tutor bench. The long, narrow room meant that several revisions of drawings were produced and it took a while until we found a design that satisfied everyone.
We then started producing 3D images of the stand-alone benches that the School wanted to use. The 3D models are exactly to scale and once they are built in AutoCad, they are easy to manipulate and revise.
We attended site in Belfast on two occasions and were in regular contact with the architect,Belfast Drawing 2, the School, the builders and Henry Schein.
The concrete floor could only be drilled in certain places which made it a bit trickier to get the services up into the benches. On our site meetings we aim to build up an understanding with the trades.
We are happy to try and share any knowledge we might have with the other disciplines and we regularly produce extra drawings showing specific dimensions or requirements so that the site can progress smoothly.
Getting all of our materials and tools over to Belfast was a logistical challenge for a company based in Somerset. Still, over the last few years we have done large jobs in Aberdeen, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Glasgow.
Our fitters are all CSCS registered we’re all used to working on large scale sites.
Getting all the trades to collaborate with us and getting the job installed on time is something we think we’re pretty good at. The whole project was scheduled to complete at the start of the Christmas holidays. We were pleased to finish our installation a week early and the whole project was finished and handed over on time.
